I have fond memories of Ike, a man who was exceedingly generous in sharing the vast knowledge he had accumulated about the Syracuse Newspapers’ legacy news system, CSI. Indeed he played a substantial role helping the newsroom evolve during the fast-changing era between IBM Selectric typewriters and the full-on, newsroom-to-press pagination system. Ike never, at least to my ears, complained about being paged to come in from home on vital production matters. Readers will never know how many on-time deliveries of their papers owed to the responsiveness of this friendly and skilled man. May Ike rest in God’s peace.

My sincere condolences. I worked with Ike from July 1988 until he retired. He was my first manager when I started there. He was always fun to talk to. Enjoyed having lunch with him and Vince in the park. He taught me all of the printing process as I was new to newspaper environment.

I was so sad to hear of Ike's passing. He was a calm port in a storm when I started as a copy editor at The Post-Standard many years ago. I had never dealt with the back shop before, making cuts to stories as they were being pasted up for printing. He made me feel welcome and offered me some good advice on doing my job without getting in the way of the professionals. I will always think of him fondly.
