My first real friend

Our family moved from Rochester to rural Ontario in 1958. I was 8 years old and Jerry was the very first person of my age I met in our new neighborhood. We became fast friends and in our school years we shared many adventures, Fishing, building go-carts, motorcycles, RC planes, and camping out in his parents woods. In our high school years we worked together at Waternam's Cold Storage in Ontario on our summer vacations packing frozen green beans in cardboard boxes. After graduation Jerry went into the Air Force and I went into the Coast Guard but we kept in touch during our active duty years. I married my high school sweetheart and Jerry married Darlene, the sweetest girl in Marion. The four of us were always together. Sharing home made dinners (Dar, do you remember Jerry's dinner with Hamburger Helper) drinking Boons Farm wine, playing Monopoly, playing cards or just hanging out listening to music. Dar and Jerry had to move away because of his job but we tried to stay in touch with occasional visits to each others homes. We raised our families and they are off on their own now. The last visit together was when the four of us were again together at our house sitting on our deck at dusk overlooking our pond and talking about old times. Jerry and I helped shape each others lives and we both benefited greatly from our life long friendship. RIP My good friend...
