Donna L. Woolson, 79 of Mexico, NY; passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 5, 2022 with her family by her side.

She was predeceased by her husband, Larry; her parents, Elmer and Dorothy Stone; and her siblings, Jack Stone, David Stone, Wayne Stone, and Ellen Nurse.

Donna is survived by her loving children, Wendy (Keith) Jones, and Michael (Heather) Woolson; sisters Barb Myers and Meredith Stone; grandchildren, Jon (Shiel), Joe, Jacob, Ryan (Ashlee), Randy, and Hunter, and Wyatt; and her great-grandchildren, Colton, Cooper, Crew, and Laurel; several nieces and nephews; and her “person” Amy.

Donna spent her life selflessly taking care of others. She was a teacher's assistant for Oswego County BOCES for many years. She always made sure her family was loved and taken care of. She prided herself on making sure her grandkids were ready for school each fall, with new backpacks and sneakers. She would bake you bread and cookies if you were sick, feeling down, or just because. Donna made sure her husband Larry was comfortable in the months before his passing, and with the help of her sister Meredith cared for her sister Ellen. She pushed her physical pain aside and did what needed to be done. Sometimes, the “Stone” would come out in her and she could have a temper, but it never lasted for long. Her heart wasn’t built to say no to her family and friends, it was filled with too much love and empathy.

Donna’s favorite pastime was sitting on her couch, reading true crime books, books on the Kennedy’s, and books on the royals. She loved the quiet. She loved cardinals, cozy sweatshirts, and candles. On the flip side, Donna disliked decorating for Christmas, being cold, and crowds.

Donna was a special person and will be greatly missed by her family who will now navigate life without her banana bread and cookies. We’ll no longer be able to call her to ask for her advice or just to talk, always knowing that she would listen, really listen.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022 from 5-8:30pm at the Mexico VFW, 5931 Scenic Ave, Mexico, NY. Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 10:30 am in New Haven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Donna Woolson can be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at https://www.jdrf.org/donate/ or donation forms will be available at the celebration of life.
