Barbara J. Wood, 61, died on Monday, November 11, 2019 at her home, after a brief illness.

Barbara was a longtime resident of Mexico, NY most recently residing at the Ames Street IRA where she received support from staff of Oswego County Opportunities, who became family to her.

She was predeceased by her Father, Theodore, and her very close friend and housemate, Mary Smith.

Barbara had created many friendships over the 30 + years she was with Oswego County Opportunities and with YMCA Day Habilitation. She worked as an assembler at Oswego Industries for several years, and had lifelong friends from there as well. In her later years Barbara enjoyed spending her days with her Day Hab friend, Angie Deloff.

Barbara was well known in her community at Daddy Eds and Dunkin Donuts! She brought a ray of light to those she met, had a vibrant smile and contagious laugh. Her strong spirit was ever present and she expressed herself without reservation.

Barbara enjoyed coffee, dances, music, Disney movies, eating out, flirting, and laughing. Barbara loved to socialize with others and always preferred to be the center of attention.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Harter Funeral Home, Inc. 9 Washington Avenue, Mexico, N.Y. A calling hour will be held from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. There will be a gathering for friends of Barbara from 12-3 p.m. at the Mexico United Methodist Church 4372 Church Street Mexico, NY.

The staff at Oswego County Opportunities extend appreciation to Oswego County Hospice for their support during Barb’s final days. In lieu of flowers; donations can be made to Oswego County Hospice.
