Obituary for Sharon A. Salter

In Loving Memory
Sharon Salter
November 19, 2022

Sharon Salter, 78, went to be with her husband & soul mate, James Salter and her son, Robert Meredith on November 19, 2022.

She retired from “the railroad,” as she would say, after working for many years at Penn Central and Conrail.

Sharon was incredibly lively, spunky and fun to be around. She was a life-long fan of Elvis Presley. Her car radio was always tuned into Elvis. An avid knitter, she would often knit blankets to give to others. She greatly enjoyed time in her garden. She had a soft spot for animals and enjoyed the birds at her feeders, loved watching the deer and other wildlife outside her door in Mexico, NY. On one particularly cold day, she even let a cat inside that she had observed in apparent distress out on her deck. That cat had five kittens. She kept, cared for and loved all six cats. Five of those cats remain, now in the care of her daughter.

She is also predeceased by her brother, Raymond Perry, former husband, John Meredith, former husband, Donald Steinbach, mother, Dorothy Perry and father, Kenneth Weaver.

Sharon is survived by her daughter, Melinda Meredith and partner, Richard Strout; sister, Donna Ramaglino; adopted children, Tammy (Brit) Godbold and Carol (Michael) Shay, nephew, David Dillman, grandchildren, Nick (Amanda) Meredith, Amanda (Todd) Rorick, Rebecca Shay and stepson, Michael (Linda) Salter, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be private. A celebration of life will be held in spring of 2023. Sharon’s family is extremely grateful to the staff at Loretto Health & Rehabilitation. Contributions may be made to the CNY SPCA. Arrangements are in care of Harter Funeral Home, Inc. Mexico, NY.
