Raymond (Poose) Frederick DeLong, age 88, of Mexico NY, passed away on January 18, 2021. Poose was born April 10, 1932, the son of Raymond John and Hazel Pifer DeLong. He graduated from Mexico Academy and Central School in 1949. After at-tending Syracuse University briefly, Poose returned to Mexico to go into the trucking business with his father. He married Patricia Ann Duff in 1951. Patricia passed away April 11, 2015.

Poose enjoyed playing sports in high school and played basketball on the Mexico Town Team after graduation. He also served a term as a Councilman on the Town Board. In his later years, Poose spent as much time as he could sitting in front of his building on Main Street waving to cars and trucks and chatting with folks who stopped by for a visit.

Poose is survived by his daughter, Margaret DeLong Martin, his son-in-law, John McLeod Martin, his granddaughters, Melanie (Molly) Laurel Martin, and Caroline Grace Martin. Poose also is survived by his siblings, Marcia DeLong Henry, June DeLong Dashnau, Dr. Richard Lewis DeLong, Sue DeLong Morton, and Robert John DeLong.

In accordance with Poose’s wishes, there will not be any formal memorial service. Ar-rangements are in care of Harter Funeral Home, Inc. Mexico, NY In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to OCO Nutritional Services - Meals on Wheels, 239 Oneida Street, Fulton NY 13069.
