Melvin L. Rude, 81, of Mexico, NY; passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022 at Oswego Hospital. He was the oldest of six children born to the late Murray and Dorothy (Southworth) Rude.

He attended Mexico Academy and Central Schools and resided in the Mexico area his entire life. Prior to retirement, he worked at Vernon Downs, construction jobs and at several local dairy farms and fruit orchards.

Mel was a simple man who over-enjoyed a cold beer and loved a good joke, especially if it was inappropriate.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters Grace Hellinger and Kay Cunningham; nephews Joseph Hellinger, Myron Smith, Jeffery Smith and Darrick Conger. He is survived by sisters Georgia Smith, Missouri; Monica Rude, New Mexico; and Judy Conger, Pulaski; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be celebrated privately with interment in Mexico Village Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Harter Funeral Home, Inc. Mexico, NY.
