Obituary for Lloyd E. Manter

May 14, 2020

Lloyd Elwood Manter born January 4, 1928, in Chester, PA, to the late Elwood and Mary (Hutchinson) Manter. He passed away peacefully at home in Mexico, NY, on May 14, 2020.

Lloyd was proud of his service in the US Coast Guard during WWII and the US Army during the Korean War, including a stint on President Truman’s honor guard and spoke of it often. He was strong believer in community involvement and was always engaged with charitable organizations wherever he was living at the time. He was a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge in both PA and NY, the Scottish Rite, Tall Cedars, and the Odd Fellows.
Lloyd was also heavily involved with the Boy Scouts of America serving as a scoutmaster, and Scout Commissioner.

A devout Christian (though, unafraid of foul language in most company) he was involved with the United Methodist Men at the First United Methodist Church of Mexico, NY, and the Reeders United Methodist Church in Reeders, PA.

In his leisure time Lloyd would often be found on the water, trying to catch a fish. The man quite likely spent enough money on tackle, rods, licenses, and boats to fully fund the Pennsylvania Fish and Game commissions for an entire year.

Family was important to Lloyd. He is survived by his children: Janice (Dennis) Carrig of East Stroudsburg, PA, David (Debbi) Manter of Stroudsburg, PA, Lucinda (George) Monson of Mexico, NY, and Robert Manter of Stroudsburg, PA. Lloyd has several grandchildren and great-grandchildren: David (Monika) Manter and their three children, Michael (Natalia) Manter and their two children, Benjamin (Tara) Manter and their four children, Robert “Bobby” (Heather) Dotter and their three children, Joshua (Elizabeth) DeFranco and their two children, Derick Manter, Rachel Monson, and Caleb Monson

He was preceded in death by his brother Leroy Manter, his wife of 55 years, Marie Manter, and his wife of 10 years, Flo Hornbeck-Manter.

Charitable contributions were important to Lloyd. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be given to your favorite local charity. Lloyd personally supported his local food pantries and various wildlife conservation efforts over the years. Services have yet to be determined. Lloyd’s family want all his friends and family to remain safe during this pandemic.
