Obituary for Lawrence E. Twiss

In Loving Memory
Lawrence E. Twiss
February 18, 2024

On February 18, 2024 at 7:34 pm a beautiful soul, named Lawrence Emery Twiss, went to meet Jesus, in the presence of his wife and children, after losing a long and well fought battle with Parkinson’s disease. Larry was well cared for at Seneca Hill Manor in Oswego New York for over a year.

Larry was born to George and Lily Twiss on February 29, 1944 at a home on Spring Street in Mexico New York.
Larry attended Mexico High School, where he played football and wrestled under the memorable Coach Sparky Rector.

In 1962 Larry met the love of his life when she walked into the bar where he was working as a bouncer. Two years later, in 1964, they were married and raised four children in Mexico NY, but have only had eyes for each other for 60 plus years.

Initially Larry worked as a farmer and bouncer, but soon decided he needed a more stable income. Consequently, he joined the Army to study becoming a Diesel Mechanic.
Larry was stationed in several areas of the US as well as Germany before being sent to Vietnam, achieving rank of Staff Sergeant by the end of his tour.

After eight years of dedicated service to this great nation, Larry was honorably discharged, returned home with his family and went to work for Ryder Trucking as a Diesel Mechanic.
It wasn’t long before Larry became a Manager. Larry was known for being tough, but kind and always willing to go the extra mile to teach his employees to do the job right. His patience and kindness with others served him well throughout his whole life.

After 30 dedicated years with Ryder, he joined the open road - of camping - with his bride of decades and their four- legged children, which brought both much joy.

Larry is survived by his wife, Carolyn, and children: Brian and Lisa Twiss, Scott and Julie Twiss, Michael and Linh Twiss and Traci and John Kelly. Grandchildren: Patrick and Elena Twiss, Jordan Twiss, Karlin Twiss, Brandon and Camryn Twiss, Mitchell and Seanna Twiss, Shelbi Clark, Tristan and Storm Kelly and Great-grandchildren: Clara and Leo Twiss, Jayce Monds and Annalise Wilmot. Larry is also survived by his brother, Charles Twiss, and several nieces and nephews in Iowa.

Funeral Services will be celebrated at 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at The Lighthouse Mexico Church of God at 11 Jefferson Street Mexico, NY. Relatives and Friends are invited to calling hours from 3 - 5 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Plans for the burial and Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in any amount towards Parkinson’s research at apdaparkinson.org would be greatly appreciated.
