Dear Mike and Janice, We cannot begin to imagine your grief at your dear mother's unexpected trip to heaven. We have so many happy memories of the years we spent together hanging out and having fun. Our families, named by your mom, "The Wat-Li-Johns," will forever have a special place in our hearts, as will she. We are so very sorry we couldn't be there in person at her service. When you are in the area, please consider us family and visit. We have sent a donation to the Central Square Music Boosters in her memory. With our love and deepest sympathy, Bill and Cam

I am so sad to hear of Joycie’s passing. Growing up 2 doors down on Fulton St, my favorite memories were of warm summer days with our windows open listening to her sing at the top of her lungs! No matter where I ran into her or how long it had been, she would have that welcoming smile that felt like a hug - always asking how all my brothers and sisters were doing and then tell me all about her latest adventure or newest project! I love reading all the wonderful thoughts everyone has shared, they truly tell a story of a life well lived. Love always my friend, Linda Baldwin House

My condolences to Mike and Janice and all of Joyce's family. I worked with Joyce for many years at Millard Hawk Junior High school and in the new CSMS middle school. We shared many concerts, talks, teaching, All County festivals, and students. Joyce was a great colleage and friend while working together. One unique memory was when we stopped a possible fire at Millard Hawk on the stage. I had a lot of fun as well. I will miss you Joyce, but was glad to have shared music and teaching with you. Mrs. Lindsey was such a beloved teacher and cared so much for her students. I could be a handful in middle school. I was part of her band and also jazz band after school. The following story is a favorite memory in our family that we still laugh about today- and I’m 47. I was in jazz band as a middle school student and decided I wanted to quit so I could just laze around at home after school. I knew Mrs. L wouldn’t let me go easily; so I concocted a plan. I went in the next day and told her that my mom was making me quit because I had chores to do. I laid it on real thick and I could see Mrs. Lindsey’s face getting more concerned and frustrated. She was buying it! My plan was working! What I didn’t count on was her calling my mother, concerned for me. She was ready to fight for me. She asked my mother why she made me do so much housework and tried to impress upon her the importance of music in a child’s life. That’s when my mom informed her that I actually watched tv after school and ate chips. I believe Mrs. Lindsley said, “Why that little stinker!” The next day I came into school, proud that my plan was coming off without a hitch. I went through band, dreaming of the Doritos waiting for me after school. As I went to leave, Mrs. L said, “oh, Christine! Wait! Great news. I spoke with your mom and she agreed to let you stay for jazz!” A thrill of fear went down my spine. I remember the amused twinkle in her eye as she watched me process everything. I stayed for jazz- then went home. My mom never said a word about the incident all evening. It was agonizing. Time for bed. Looks like mom's going to let this go. “Oh Chris, before you go to bed, I want you to know that all that housework you were supposed to do tonight was moved to Saturday,”. Remembering your mom with love always. ♥️

OMG so many fun filled memories. Your kindness will be with us forever my friend. Rest in peace. Not sure you will ever stop!!

One of the most influential teachers throughout my life has been the universally beloved Mrs. Lindsley. With an open heart, she helped foster my love of music and helped so much with affordable (or free in our times of need) private lessons. She gently pushed me as a flutist enough that I went from a wee shy girl in class to first chair / all-state / all-county / perfect score in the largest solo competition in NY, while also allowing my quirky wants to come through as I got into playing non-classical styles- in school / all-county jazz bands and jamming with rock groups in local bars & sometimes even on the radio with local rock bands. She is the main reason I got my music education degree (though I could never settle down enough to utilize it in a proper school setting). Mrs. Lindsley always taught with love, and going to her lessons felt like being home, or having a nice afternoon with a beloved friend. My love goes out to her family & all who knew her. 💙🎶💙

It was my pleasure to get to know Joyce when she bought my parents home, the 1850 house as she called it. It made my heart happy to know how much she loved our old home (and it looks great now!) A short time later we connected again through the Fort Brewerton Historical Society. Just a couple weeks ago she organize some of her music studens to play at our Christmas Open House . She was so dedicated to the Brewerton community. We will miss her! Peace be with her and her family.

So sad to hear of Joyce’s passing. She welcomed my kids and I to this neighborhood in 2011. She hired my kids to do yard work & various chores. After they left for college she hired other kids to take over, but always asked how mine were doing. I will miss our chats in the driveway catching up with each other. Her greatest joy these last few years were her grandchildren- her face lit up when she talked about them. Rest in peace Joyce. Julie Peterson

Well Joyce I will say it no one else does. To me your not gone. Maybe I don't see you cutting the bushes or trees or saying Debbie Deb "what ya doing girl". But I know your still here, never to be gone. We have been good friends, neighbors since 94 so as we also say hold that thought I will be right back. I told you then as I tell it now your in my heart forever. My support, and heartfelt love and gratitude to your children, grand children . I know the loss is difficult for them but I hope I can keep your memory alive everyday. It was your kindness to myself , Angelia that will stick with us forever. No one will ever replace your grace, educated words, or your friendship. Your journey to trim the bushes , to teach the music, to let God take you to that new journey in heaven doesn't mean your gone. I look at your house I see you everywhere. The beauty of you and your wisdom shows very much in our hearts and in Brewerton. As soon as I hear music I know your watching. Deb Conto

Oh Joyce we are missing you at our Monday music lesson. Joyce taught my daughter piano to concert level on NYSSMA. She also played piano at her wedding. Fast forward a few years and she was working with two of our grandaughters on piano, flute, drums and vocals. When my wife Jean decideled that I needed to llearn to play an instrument of course she called Joyce. Two weeks ago after more than 2 years of lessons she finally told me I was no longer a beginner. Joyce was always quick to encourage. What a treasure to the local community.

Oh Joyce!!! How I will miss our “ catch-ups” in the halls of Brewerton El when you came to sub! I loved seeing your name on our morning sub list- I’d make it my business to stop by first thing in the morning- you had a way of jump starting my days in a different way. Whether it be a story if your latest travels, your children or your grandchildren, I knew I’d leave feeling uplifted by your spunky attitude and gracious spirit! I’ll never forget feeling so welcomed at lessons with Daniel and Jordan, and how hard you worked with Daniel for NYSMA. You were a miracle worker, such a talented teacher with a humbleness that is so very hard to find. I will miss your smile, your laugh and beautiful spirit. “You get me Simmone”… yes Joyce, I do, and we wouldn’t want you any other way. God speed sweet soul.

Joyce was a beautiful soul. She welcomed our family to Brewerton over 15 years ago when we moved in across the street. It makes me smile as I think of all the times we would yell across Bartel just to say hello over the traffic noise. She meticulously maintained her property and ALWAYS kept that fence painted and the bushes trimmed; we had no choice but to keep up! Winter was no exception as she always had a beautiful Christmas light display this time of year. My condolences to her family - she spoke very fondly of her children and grand children. Joyce - You will be missed.

I’m so sorry for your loss. She was a great music teacher. Her sprint and friendship got me thru a few yrs at the jr high. Even after school she always wanted to know how I was doing. I remember when I stop in at school with my first baby and she was so surprised. She was in a class and she held the baby and taught at the same time. She was a huge light for me in my teen yrs and I hope to see her when it’s my time to go. ❤️🙏

So so sorry to hear of Joyce's passing. She was a fabulous teacher devoted to her students who continued to love and support them long after they had left her realm of influence. She was always interested in their lives and their successes. She would send copies of music with me that she thought Nicole would like years after being her teacher and never forgot to ask ab out her whenever we met. She was wise to tell me when she could no long challenge Nicole and saw to it she had a superior private tutor for which I will be eternally grateful. As for friendship...no one could ask for a better friend. She was loyal and just a barrel of laughs. Inquisitive!!! She had to look behind every door and explore every road which often made us late for our appointed time with tour guides. There was never a down moment with her. Once we were in Russia and I looked out of the ship's balcony to see our tour bus at the dock. I said never mind the make up just throw on some clothes and let us go. We made it! Last on the bus and low and behold in her bag....snack for the breakfast we had missed. She always had her big purse with her which held what ever we might need. She even carried it along the Great Wall of Chine. As she trudge with the bag I remember saying, "Joyce, that bag really has to go!" I shall miss you my dear friend. God be with you.
