Janice Marilyn Howard, age 80, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 19, 2019. She was born on September 8, 1939 in Parish, NY to Theodore and Kathryn Barber. Janice was raised in Parish, NY and attended the APW School District. After high school, Janice married her childhood sweetheart, Jerry Howard, in October 1958.

Janice worked for a short period of time at General Electric, and then at the Maple View Post Office. Later in her career, she became the Librarian of the Mexico Public Library from 1981 to 2009. For almost three decades, Janice worked with the local community to provide access to literacy resources and services. Outside of work, Janice continually shared her love of reading with her own family in many ways. Janice’s (or Nana’s) house was always full of art supplies and books with places to create and read, throughout the years.

Janice is survived by, her husband of 60 years, Jerry Howard, of Parish, NY; along with two daughters, Michelle (Michael) Guarasce, of Lacona, NY and Amy (Richard) McCormack, of Mexico, NY; sisters, Dorthea (Thomas, pre-deceased in 2006) McAuslan, of Parish, NY. Janice’s surviving grandchildren include, McKenna and Anthony Guarasce of Lacona, NY and Ashton and Caden McCormack of Mexico, NY. She also leaves behind, a nephew Douglas (Roberta) McAuslan of Parish, NY and a niece, Lynda (Carl Ranaldi) McAuslan, of Jamestown, RI.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, December 23, 2019 from the Harter Funeral Home, Inc. 9 Washington Avenue, Mexico, NY. Spring Interment will be in the Pleasant Lawn Cemetery, Parish, NY. Friends and family are invited to call from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home prior to the funeral home.
