Hope E. Britton Lenhart, 64 of Mexico passed away on February 17,2023 surrounded by her family. Hope was born May 7, 1958, to Robert and Nancy (Tourot) Britton Sr. Hope was a graduate of Mexico Academy and Central Schools and attended Herkimer Community College.

Hope worked for Oswego County at the Department of Social Services for 37 years, retiring in January of 2017. While there she worked in almost every department with her last 17 years being with Child Support. Hope spent several years working in family court with child support and assisting the judges with those matters. This was one of her passions. Hope began giving baton lessons at the age of 17 and did so for many years. Her group “The Futurettes” marched in many parades.

Hope worked with the high school band, instructing the twirlers and color guard for many years. Hope also formed a youth band which she named “The Mascots” after her beginning band in school. The music for this band was put together by the late Keith Himes who was then the Director of beginning bands in the MACS School District. Hope put together the twirlers and color guards and the band took to the streets where they were very well received by the community.
Another of Hope’s great passions was the Mexico Alumni Band of which she was a founding member. She helped to organize the band each marching year for 27 years. She was a baton twirler and Drum Majorette. Hope was very active in her church. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 52 years. Sher was a Sunday School Teacher as well as the Sunday School Superintendent. She also worked with the Monday’s Meals soup kitchen at the church. She worked with many committees within the church and was a member of the Church Choir and Praise Team. Hope was very committed to working with children and was involved in many community projects with children and youth. Hope worked with the Mexico Little League as the Umpire Administrator for several years.

Hope was predeceased by her parents, her husband Donald Lenhart, her sister Lou Ann Britton and her loving Fiancé Mark Ross. Hope is survived by her children Matthew (Tina) Lenhart, Ashley (Norman) Lenhart-Gladden, Donald (Nancy) Lenhart Jr., Joseph (Monica) Fagan. Grandchildren Haylee Marie Gibson, Evan Lenhart, Addison Lenhart, Riquel (Tyson) Hall, Lain (Carrieann) Wright, Lara Hall, Skyler Fagan, Zachary Fagan, Carter Gladden, Mason Gladden and Chandler Gladden. Great grandchildren Charlie, Sadie and Henry. Siblings, Robert (Sheila Britton, Holly (Chester) Slavings, Laurie (Robin) Rosser, Frances (Sandra) Britton, Amy (Duke) Barber. Hope also leaves to cherish her memory several nieces and nephews she loved as her own.

Services and Funeral will be at the Mexico First United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 1-3pm. Arrangements are in care of Harter Funeral Home Inc. Mexico NY.
