Obituary for Forrest E. Meeks

In Loving Memory
Forrest E. Meeks “Monk”
March 22, 1945 - August 20, 2023

Forrest E. Meeks "Monk" was born on March 22, 1945 to Forrest Elihu and Zirita (Bloodgood) Meeks. He passed peacefully at home on August 20, 2023.

Born and raised in Mexico, NY he graduated from MACS in 1963 and enlisted in the USAF following his graduation. He attended basic training at Lackland AFB in Texas. During his service he was stationed at Beale AFB in California and Kadena AFB in Okinawa, Japan during the Vietnam War. After he received his Honorable Discharge, he returned home to Mexico and began his career at Alcan where he retired as safety coordinator.

After retirement you could usually find him in the garage listening to Johnny Cash, woodworking, shining up his corvette and classic cars, playing a game of pitch with friends or enjoying a cold Busch Light.

If he wasn’t in the garage, at coffee hour with his sister Sherry or on the mower he was most likely camping at Bass Lake sharing stories with his friends around a fire in the “beer tent.”

Monk loved watching and supporting his grandchildren and the community in athletic events and was proud to be honored as Mexico’s “Spectator of the Year.”

Forrest was predeceased by his parents Forrest and Zarita (Bloodgood) Meeks, his sisters Norene Avery and Donna Donovan Abulencia and his brother Richard Meeks.

Forrest is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen Ottoway Meeks; his daughter Jennifer Meeks; son Kenneth Meeks (Tiffany); his grandchildren Isabella, Ava, Elizabeth, Jackson and Chase; his sister Sherry Greer of Mexico and brother Daniel Meeks of South Lake Tahoe California as well as several nieces and nephews.

As per his wishes a celebration of life will be held Friday August 25, 2023 at the Mexico VFW Edick-Hamlink Post #369 from 3-7 p.m. with Full Military Honors taking place at 4 p.m. Arrangements are in care of Harter Funeral Home, Inc. Mexico, NY.
