Edward H. Braley
1951-2022

Edward H. Braley, age 70, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his home on May 20th, 2022. Edward was was a loving father, father-in-law, grandfather, and husband in addition to being a great friend to many. He was born June 18th, 1951, to Dorothy (née Neil) and Edward D. Braley and raised in Altmar in Oswego County, NY where he spent most of his life. He was married to the love of his life Melissa L. Braley for over 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Melissa Braley (née Gould), sons Ryan Braley and Alexander E. Braley, and daughter Amanda J. Braley. He is survived by his grandson Troy Braley (son of Ryan) as well as grandsons Adrian A. Braley and Damian A. Braley (sons of Alexander and daughter-in-law Joy Braley). He served as a dog handler in the United States Air Force from 1973 to 1975 serving with honor. He excelled in his field and was quickly promoted to sergeant before being honorably discharged at the conclusion of the Vietnam War. He worked at Felix-Schoeller Technical papers for 27 years as a rewinder/operator and a union officer in Pulaski, NY before retiring.

Born of humble means without electricity or plumbing, he instilled in his children the power of hard work and resourcefulness. He cared very deeply for his family, lighting up at any opportunity to spend time with family or hold his grandchildren. He was known for being easy going, caring, and gregarious. He had the unique ability to chat for hours with anyone about a wide array of topics from politics and weather to science and sports. He was multidimensional and lighthearted and could find a common ground with almost anyone; sharing stories and experiences and making the time melt away, lost in conversation. He loved his animals, and could be seen daily in the rain, sun, or snow casually walking one of his best friends around the neighborhood, stopping for coffee and conversations along the way. He was fascinated by the nature and the world, and on a particularly stormy day he could be seen sitting in his garage listening to the storm, watching the cloud formations, and chatting about life to whoever was lucky enough to be in his presence. He will be missed, dearly.

Relatives and Friends are invited to call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Harter Funeral Home, Inc. 2983 W. Main Street, Parish, NY. There will be a celebration of life to follow at Henry and Peggy Gould’s house at 179 Seeber Rd, Hastings NY, 13076.
