Obituary for Duane M. Detor

In Loving Memory
Duane M. Detor
March 14, 2022

Duane M. Detor was born in Syracuse on September 20, 1962, and passed away peacefully at home on March 14, 2022. He served in the Air Force and upon completion of service, he went to work for Wise Potato Chips in Orlando, Florida. After about a year, he returned to New York and went to work for Hostess Cupcakes (guess what the family got for Christmas!), followed by employment with Roberson Trucking Company, and then Arrow Trucking.

He retired from Arrow Trucking when he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Although the disease progressively debilitated him, he retained a quick and sharp wit and enjoyed trading barbs with anyone and everyone. He maintained several notebooks of football statistics and could uncannily predict the winning team with nearly one hundred percent accuracy (although he always showed favoritism and loyalty to the Rams!)

In his younger adult life, he had constant companionship with Samoia, Sequoia and Rocky (two Samoyed Huskies and a black and white mixed breed that was lovingly referred to as a small cow!) Duane was constantly amused by how Rocky would “duck” when going under a bridge while travelling down the road and so would intentionally take routes with overhead bridges on them!

Duane is pre-deceased by his father Donald S. Detor. He is survived by his mother, Kathleen T. Detor of Mexico, siblings Theresa Tatum of South Carolina, Douglas (JoAnn) Detor of Florida, Donna (Tony) Vesta of Mexico, Darrell Detor of Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2022, from Harter Funeral Home, Inc. 9 Washington Avenue, Mexico, NY. Spring Interment will be on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 1 p.m. in Mexico Village Cemetery. Relatives and Friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in his name.

“I MISS YOU A LITTLE”
I miss you a little, since you’ve been gone.
A few “little” memories keep hangin’ on.
I miss you a “little” I guess you could say,
A little too much. A little too often. A little more every day.
