Obituary for Donna L. Meteer

In Loving Memory
Donna S. Meteer
May 1, 2023

Donna Swindells Meteer, 81, of New Haven, NY, passed away at home on May 1, 2023 after a long illness.

Donna was born in Oswego, NY, on April 4, 1942 to Stanley and Freda Swindells. She attended Fitzhugh Park School and Oswego High School, graduating in 1960.

A life-long resident of Oswego and New Haven, Donna worked at a number of jobs, most notably as a cook at the Char Pit in Oswego, later retiring from a job with Auxiliary Services at SUNY Oswego.

Donna was long-time member of the American Legion in Oswego. She enjoyed being with and entertaining family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She REALLY went overboard at Christmastime. She worked hard at keeping the family in line and taught them to work hard and play hard. She loved to read, cook, and watch classic TV shows. No ice cream was safe in her presence.

Donna is survived by her children; Robert (Carlotta) Larkin of Scriba, Richard Larkin of New Haven, and Janelle Meteer of Corning; her grandchildren; Christopher (Anna Lobb) Larkin of Oswego, Nicholas (Jennifer) Larkin of Concord, OH, Cassidee Larkin of Scriba, Mason Larkin of New Haven, Jordan Meteer of Blacksburg, VA, and Julia Meteer of Buffalo; her great-grandchildren; Lilly and Katherine Larkin of Concord, OH; her brother, Redd (Susan) Swindells of Oswego; her niece Kara (Ron Marcus) Swindells of Phoenix; and her great-nephew Scott LaPageSwindells of Volney.

Donna was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Freda Swindells; her husband, Wayne Meteer; her son, John Meteer; her late-life companion Gilbert Potter; and many dear friends.

There will be no calling hours. Burial in New Haven Rural Cemetery will be private, with arrangements through Harter Funeral Home, Inc. Mexico, NY.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of one’s choice.

The family would like to thank Dr. Corliss Varnum (retired) and UpState Oncology at Oswego for their care and support.
