Obituary for Debra Wanner

In Loving Memory
Debra Wanner
October 20, 2023

Surrounded by family, Debra (Debbie) Wanner, 67, of Central Square, NY; passed peacefully on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Seneca Hill Manor, after a long, hard fought battle with post stroke health complications.

Debbie was born on February 21, 1956, to Norman and Margaret (Hasto) Jeroloman in Danbury, CT. She was the youngest of three and Daddy’s little girl. After moving around while she was young, her family ended up settling in Central Square, NY. She was a graduate of Central Square High School and married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Smith soon after. Together they moved to Pennsylvania and resided there for many years. They welcomed their two children, Jennifer in 1977 and Brian in 1980. Debbie loved living within the Amish farmlands and enjoyed the beauty of Pennsylvania. She grew her love and talent for gardening, decorating, and antiquing in the rural community of Honey Brook.

In 1993 Debbie got remarried to Craig Wanner and gained two stepdaughters, Melissa and Michelle. They continued to live in Pennsylvania for a few years before returning to Debbie’s hometown of Central Square in 1995.Debbie worked at the local restaurant in Brewerton, DG’s, as a waitress and front house manager before retiring from her final job, a teaching assistant at Central Square Schools. She loved working with her “kids” and made many special, lasting friendships there. Debbie had a zest for life, a love for her fur babies, and was always grateful for even the tiniest of things. She will be greatly missed by all who have been lucky enough to know and love her.

Debbie is survived by her husband of 30 years, Craig Wanner; her children, Jennifer (Sean) McGillicuddy, Brian (Trisha) Smith, Melissa (Doug) Ortman, and Michelle Wanner; her grandchildren Owen Ortman, Rebecca Smith, and Patrick McGillicuddy; her brother Robert (Fran) Jeroloman; her Great Aunt Ann Edwards; and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Norman and Margaret Jeroloman; and her beautiful sister Marlee Campbell. We are comforted knowing that they are together again.

Funeral Services will be private. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of life for Debbie, held at Jakes Grub & Grog, 7 E River Road, Central Square, NY 13036 from 1pm-4pm on Saturday, October 28,2023. Food will be provided, and the family asks only for your presence and the sharing of happy memories.

Arrangements are in care of Harter Funeral Home, Inc. Mexico, NY.
