Obituary for Claude Hadwin Fravor

In Loving Memory
Claude Hadwin (Had) Fravor
October 21, 1942 – December 31, 2023

Claude Hadwin (Had) Fravor of Mexico NY passed away on Sunday, December 31 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 81. Had was born on October 21, 1942 to the late William and Daisy Fravor.

Had graduated from Mexico High School in 1962 and then went on to serve four years in the United States Air Force. Had’s fellow serviceman affectionately nicknamed him ‘Gil’ after Gil Favor, a character on the television show Rawhide. The nickname followed him home and when he went to work for the New York Telephone Company. Had continued working for the phone company as a field technician and lineman until he retired from Verizon in 2002.

Had was active in Mexico Little League, volunteering as a baseball coach, a softball coach, and an umpire. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and bowled in several leagues over the years. He proudly served as councilman on the Mexico Town Board and was an honorary member of the Mexico Volunteer Fire Department. He and his wife, the late Linda (Birdsell) Fravor, looked forward to the Mexico Firemen’s Field Days each year and could be found volunteering in the Chicken Tent. Had enjoyed traveling, dancing, coordinating breakfast and dinner gatherings for his fellow Verizon retirees, and socializing with his “Drinks On The Driveway” friends.

Had was predeceased by his loving wife, the late Linda (Birdsell) Fravor in 2020. The pair were married for nearly 54 years at the time of her passing.

Those left to cherish Had’s memory include his son Hadwin and wife Heather (Rhinehart) Fravor of Mexico, NY; daughter Amy and husband Joshua Rhinehart of New Haven, NY; his beloved grandchildren Reed Fravor, Hannah Fravor and Tanner Rhinehart; his sister-in-law Brenda (Birdsell) and her husband John Fietze; his brother-in-law Dennis and his wife Marcia (Vincent) Birdsell; several nieces and nephews; companion Betty Sutliff; and many dear friends.

Graveside Services will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2023 in the Mexico Village Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Harter Funeral Home, Inc. 9 Washington Avenue, Mexico, NY.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Had’s honor by check or money order to the Mexico Volunteer Fire Department or the First United Methodist Church of Mexico.
